Harlingen
It is only a short walk to the historic city center of Harlingen. Nowhere in Europe will you find a place with such a high density of carefully restored monuments that remind you of the lively trading past of the city.
Perky warehouses, beautiful patrician houses, lively inland ports, canals and bridges color the city center. Add to that a vibrant range of shops, a museum and a variety of cafes, restaurants and nice terraces and you have every reason to want to see and experience Harlingen!
Terschelling and Vlieland
From Villa Singelzicht you can easily reach the ferries to the Wadden Islands of Terschelling and Vlieland, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Wadden Sea. The islands have a lot to offer in terms of both nature and culture. And if you’re lucky you might even see a few seals on your way there!
Leeuwarden
From Harlingen it is about a 20 minute drive to Leeuwarden. A visit to the Frisian capital is more than worth your while. You can visit the Frisian Museum, leaning tower the Oldehove or former prison Blokhuispoort (now a cultural center with a museum, library, hotel, restaurant and various shops). A visit to the stinzen (former homes of the Frisian nobility) and attached gardens in the picturesque villages of Jelsum and Cornjum north of Leeuwarden is also highly recommended.
